Mean Length of Utterance (MLU) is a vital measure of language development, offering insights into a child's grammatical complexity. It's simply the average number of morphemes per utterance.

However, counting MLU by hand can be tricky, and one common mistake is forgetting to exclude mazes (repetitions, fillers, false starts) from your utterance count before calculating.

This can artificially inflate the MLU and skew your assessment. To ensure accuracy, especially when reviewing a hand count, it's helpful to have a reliable tool.
